VALLELY CITY, N.D. — The 19th annual James D. Ployhar Honor Band will perform in the Performance Hall in the Center for the Arts on the campus of Valley City State University at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28. Ninety-five students from 20 schools across North Dakota and South Dakota were selected who will perform classical and modern band literature featuring selections written by James Ployhar.
To mark the first Ployhar event in the new Center for the Arts, the event will feature two educators recently honored in their field. Professor Shawn Sudduth, director of music education and athletic bands at University of the Cumberlands in Kentucky will conduct the Honor Band, which features the top instrumentalists accepted for the event. Sudduth sponsors the UC National Association for Music Education chapter, which was recognized with the 2022 National Service Chapter of Excellence Award.
The Festival Band will feature Tammy Goerger, instrumental music teacher at Wahpeton (North Dakota) Public Schools and the 2022 Richland County Teacher of the Year.
