Jamestown Elks to award scholarships totaling $11,000 in 2022
The scholarships will be awarded to area graduating seniors.
Jamestown Elks Lodge 995 announced on Wednesday, March 9, that scholarships totaling $11,000 will be awarded this year to graduating seniors from area high schools.
Included in the scholarships is a one-time $3,000 Kevin Thoele Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship will be $1,500 per year for two years for an area student enrolled in a two-year diesel mechanic program in an accredited school or technical center.
The $2,500 Donald Lohr Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to an area graduating senior pursuing further education at a four-year institution of higher learning.
There will be four Darlene Smith-Lohr Scholarships. The first scholarship of $1,500 will be limited to a graduate of Jamestown High School who will enroll at the University of Jamestown. A $1,000 Darlene Smith-Lohr Scholarship will be awarded to a student enrolled in a two- or four-year junior college, community college or four-year institution. Two Darlene Smith-Lohr Scholarships of $750 each will be awarded to students enrolled in a minimum nine-month course in a career tech/vocational school.
The final three scholarships will be $500 each and will go to students attending an accredited post-secondary career tech/vocational school or college.
The Jamestown Elks Lodge 995 said this week that it has received almost $120,000 for scholarships through the Donald Lohr trust and will work to have the funds continue into perpetuity.
Elks Lodge 995 said it is honored to be able to assist students as they endeavor to further their educations.
