Girl Scouts-Dakota Horizons has announced that Theresa Kraft of Jamestown has earned a Gold Award. She will receive the award at Gold Award Leadership Luncheon on June 19 at the Fargo Air Museum. Miss America Cara Mund will speak at the event.
The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest honor a Girl Scout can earn. It acknowledges the power behind each Gold Award Girl Scout's dedication to not only empowering and bettering herself, but also to making the world a better place for others through "Take Action projects that have sustainable impact in their communities and beyond.
Kraft" earned the award for her "Blankets of Comfort" project that started a local blanket drive for children in foster homes. The blankets will be provided to children as they enter foster care and can be taken with them when they leave.
"I am more confident after my project because of the great feedback people have been giving me," said Kraft, a member of Troop #30967. "I wanted to educate people about foster care and provide comfort that foster care kids can take with them."
The project will be sustained in the community with an annual blanket drive to benefit Stutsman County Social Services.
