Sandy Wilhelm introduced Eileen Lisko, a charter member of the cancer support network Help for Hope and Healing, to speak at the Kiwanis noon luncheon meeting May 24 at the Lantern Room.

Lisko has lived in Jamestown for 30 years. She taught school in Minnesota and Jamestown and currently works with her husband at Lisko Funeral Chapel. She has been a member of the Jamestown Area Grief Support team since it began in 2002. She said Tom Haroldson, who fought a rare cancer for five years, was the inspiration for the HHH support group.

Haroldson was not shy and found it easy to ask his friends for help when he and his wife, Laurel, needed it, Lisko said. When Tom died the family asked that in lieu of flowers, memorials should be given for a cancer support group. Laurel later met a woman who was new to our community and didn't have a network of friends when her husband was diagnosed with cancer. She turned to Laurel and the HHH cancer support group came to be. In 2007, a network of volunteers was recruited. Help can be given in the form of transportation, child care, household chores or a meal. Lisko said the best help sometimes is having someone to talk to that has been through it and understands.

The support group meets monthly to hear a speaker and share experiences over refreshments. For more information, visit the website www.jamestowncancer support.org, e-mail HHH@ jamestowncancersupport.org or call Lisko at 251-1280.

Galen Rasmussen led the meeting, Sharon and Don Caine led the singing and Happy Dollars were collected for Camp Rokiwan. Members of Kiwanis and Rotary met at Camp Rokiwan on May 27 to get the campground and buildings ready for the summer camping season. Kiwanis furnished the meal.
