Organizers of the 12th annual Polar Pig "Walk The Plank” said they are not worried about cold weather for the event on Saturday.

With the high temperature expected to be around 1 degree, according to the National Weather Service, hopes are still high for a good turnout.

“More people come out when it's cold,” said Don Wegner, event founder. “They seem to want to stay closer to home.”

In 11 years the Jamestown Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) events have raised more than $170,000 for Jamestown Regional Medical Center’s Home Health & Hospice, he said. Individuals and teams of friends, families and co-workers raise $100 each to jump off a makeshift pirate ship deck into a heated pool of water outside Stutsman Harley-Davidson.

“JRMC Hospice holds such appreciation for the hard work that the Harley-Davidson staff and H.O.G. chapter have done in support of what we do,” said Shar Trevithick, manager of Home Health & Hospice.

JRMC Hospice supported 107 patients and their families in 2017, she said. The staff are honored to provide this kind of compassionate care during difficult times, she said.

There are eight members in the JRMC Home Health & Hospice team for the Polar Pig Splash. The team comes each year to take part in raising funds, she said.

“This isn’t just a job for us,” Trevithick said.

Ron and Cheryl Seigman are leading the Polar Pig Splash Chili Cook Off for District 8 American Bikers Aiming Toward Education. Guests pay a $5 hospice donation to sample cups of chili and rank the contestants. The top three winners get plaques.

To submit a chili entry contact the Seigmans at 320-9890.

Local auctioneer Roger Nenow will start the live auction at 1 p.m. Items are still coming in from local businesses, and people can drop off silent or live auction items at Stutsman Harley-Davidson, Wegner said.
