Jan Barnes led the June 22 Kiwanis meeting that was attended by 27 members and three guests at the Quality Inn & Suites.
Mark St. Anthony, a disc jockey for KSJB radio, was inducted as a new club member. He can be heard from 2 to 6 p.m. on Classic Country, AM 600. Anthony is originally from Ohio and looking forward to being a part of the community through Kiwanis’ activities, he said.
Chuck Axtman led the group in singing and was accompanied by Tim Burchill. Vanessa Grabinger collected “Happy Dollars” for Camp Rokiwan at Spiritwood Lake.
Amanda Thrift introduced guest speaker Tom Thrift from Home on the Range. Home on the Range is located near the Montana border in Sentinel Butte, N.D. The ranch began in 1959 for neglected and abused boys; today the ranch has as many as 54 boys and girls ranging from 9 to 19 years old. Home on the Range is a fully-accredited school where troubled kids come from all over the country to get help. In addition to being a school and working cattle ranch, it has horses and training for rescue dogs. The philosophy of Home on the Range is service to children and families, leadership in the child care field and conviction to make a healthier and stronger world, Thrift said.
