Students participate in Junior Music Festival
The students do not compete in this event.
The 2022 Junior Music Festival, sponsored by the National Federation of Music Clubs, was held recently at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jamestown.
Forty students from South East Central North Dakota, including 18 students of Joann Herman, participated in this year’s Junior Festival.
Ginger Gasal and Jadrienne Wirrenga earned 15-point trophies in the Piano Solo event, Catherine Hunt earned a 15-point trophy in the Theory event, Megan Jarrett earned a 15-point trophy in the Vocal Art Song event, and Tyler Piehl earned a 15-point trophy in the American Folk Song and Patriotic event.
Others who participated and earned certificates in the Piano Solo event were, Brady Althoff, Kiera Andersen, Noah Babcock, Fritz Braun, Shelby Dunwoody, Jacob Janzen, Cora Landenberger, Macy Mansavage, William McMillan and Braylee Serfoss. Dunwoody also earned a certificate in the Theory event. Students who earned certificates in Hymn Playing were Janzen and Peyton Soma. Janzen also earned certificates in the Piano Concerto and Sight Playing events. Ethan Althoff and McMillan participated and earned certificates in the Piano Duet event. Megan Jarrett and Soma earned certificates in the Vocal Art Song Event. Catie Hunt and Jarrett earned certificates in the Vocal Duet event and Caine Landenberger earned a certificate in the Flatpicking Guitar Solo event.
The Junior Festival is not a competition. Each student receives a rating, points and a judge’s comments based on his or her individual performance. The highest number of points a student may receive in each event is 5 points. Trophies are awarded every 15 points. Students may perform in more than one event.
