Jonathan Nyberg is this month’s artist at Unison Bank.
As a home-schooled student, Nyberg said he was brought up making art out of everything around him. It was part of his life, not separated from work or school. He said when he learned to weld it opened up a new world of possibilities. Most of what he makes is comprised of things others have thrown away. He likes to take junk and give it another life. Wood is also a favorite medium. As a teenager, he decided to make a guitar that subsequently became the first of several in progress. Each has taught him more about the process. He said his methods started out primitively and almost exclusively uses a pocket knife.
Nyberg said he wouldn't call himself an artist, but art is a part of what he does.
