The Valley City State University Department of Music will present its fall instrumental concert at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 19 in historic Vangstad Auditorium on the campus of VCSU.

Leading the program will be the Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Ken Jimenez, assistant professor of music. The middle portion of the program will feature two percussion performances under the direction of new percussion instructor Dustin Mallory, assistant professor of music at VCSU. Mallory joined the faculty after completing teaching service in Pennsylvania over the past several years. Performances under his direction will include a snare drum solo by Theo Herzog and “Ceremonium”, a percussion ensemble selection by Jared Spears.

Closing the program for the evening will be the concert band under the direction of Jerrold Heide, chair of the Department of Music and current VCSU director of bands.

“It’s been wonderful to have students performing in our traditional ensembles again”, he said. “Both the Jazz Ensemble and Concert Band will be making a return to the concert stage with this performance, as both ensembles were placed on hiatus during the Covid-19 pandemic."

Admission is free and open to all community members.
