BISMARCK — Several photographers from across the state have been selected as the winners of this year's North Dakota Governor's Photo Contest.
Gov. Doug Burgum and others announced the winners virtually on Friday, Oct. 23, recognizing photographers "who captured the essence of what makes North Dakota a great place to visit, live, work and raise a family."
Prints of the winning images will be displayed through the end of the year at the North Dakota Heritage Center and State Museum. In addition, the photographers will be published in the state's tourism promotional materials and on ndtourism.com.
Photographers submitted their work to several categories, including Road Trips, #InThisTogetherND and Wildlife. Here are this year's winners.
Badlands Scenery: "A Break Among the Clouds," Sierrah Fischer (Watford City). Honorable mentions: "Badlands Under Starlight," Marshall Lipp (Mandan); and "Crocus," Rachel Dewhirst (Grassy Butte).
Beyond the Badlands Scenery: "Along for the Ride," Marshall Lipp. Honorable mentions: "Summer Sun Halo," Casey Helling/Lights Out Images (Golden Valley); and "Kayaking at Government Bay," Nicole Morrison (Bismarck).
#InThisTogetherND: "The Painter," Meredith Jo Ehli (Bismarck). Honorable mentions: "Fishing Buddies," Laura Gardner (Washburn); and "Reflections of Lives Nurtured," Connie Krapp (Jamestown).
Main Street ND: "Down by the River," Katherine Plessner (Verona).
Roadtrips: "King of the Mountain," Laura Gardner. Honorable mentions: "Taking the Backroads," Susanne Kallis (Carrington); and "East Meets West," Lisa Gruebele (Bismarck).
Wildlife: "The Amazing Grace of the Bald Eagle," Lisa Buchweitz (Langdon). Honorable mentions: "Mink on the Move," Steve Silseth (Minot); "Here's Looking at You Kid," Lisa Buchweitz; and "Snow Geese," Steve Silseth.
