Flea beetles available in Stutsman County

Flea beetles are available for distribution through Ron Manson, weed control officer for Stutsman County.

Stutsman County will not hold a public event for the distribution of the insects this year. Flea beetles feed on leafy spurge, a noxious weed that can cause damage to cropland and pastures.

“Leafy spurge continues to be one of North Dakota’s most difficult-to-control noxious weeds,” said Doug Goehring, North Dakota agriculture commissioner. “Using the flea beetles for biological control, as part of an integrated pest management plan, has proven to be an effective tool in combatting leafy spurge infestations.”

People looking to acquire beetles to control leafy spurge can contact Manson at (701) 320-4512.
