"The federal government has realized the value of the massive amounts of commercial consumer data that is freely available on the open market," Rep. Kelly Armstrong said.
“They see me as a powerful voice that needs to be silenced,” Omar declared to a standing ovation from Democratic colleagues. “But I came to Congress to speak out.”
The embattled congressman has faced calls from fellow New York Republicans to step down over fabrications about his career and history.

The legislation would, among other things, add the U.S. secretary of agriculture to the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States.
"We have serious questions concerning how unchecked growth of the federal bureaucracy and insufficient oversight have harmed our country," Rep. Kelly Armstrong said in a written statement.
"Debt ceiling showdowns aren't a mechanism for exacting spending concessions and imposing discipline. They're performances. An opportunity to entertain the rubes, drink liberal tears, etc., etc."
Those concessions, including sharp spending cuts and other curbs on McCarthy's powers, could point to further turbulence in the months ahead.

Because of its inability to choose a leader, the 435-seat House has been rendered impotent - unable even to formally swear in newly elected members let alone hold hearings or consider legislation.

Republicans who back McCarthy accuse the hardliners of playing into claims that the party is incapable of governing.
The selections stalled last year in the Senate which was split 50-50 between Republicans and Democrats, with Vice President Kamala Harris breaking ties. The new Senate convenes on Tuesday.
The breakthrough came as Congress worked to meet a midnight Friday deadline for the bill that would fund government programs through Sept. 30, 2023. Existing money expires at the end of the week.
