Letter to the editor: What would Jesus do at the borders?
There has been a lot of controversy lately about immigrant children being taken away from their parents at the border. Many of you are Christians. Now I want you to think for a moment ... WWJD (What Would Jesus do)? If Jesus was at the U.S. borders would he take families and split them up? I do not remember reading that in the Bible.
Do not oppress a foreigner; you yourselves know how it feels to be foreigners, because you were foreigners in Egypt. (Exodus 23:9)
I recently saw some comments regarding how what we are doing at our borders is the right thing to do. What has happened to this country when people think it’s OK to split families up? Even if these individuals have broken the law, what good does it accomplish to rip babies from their mothers arms? What if, god forbid, something happened to you and your family and you had to move to another county? How would you want to be treated? People don't come here for the fun of it - they’re desperate to experience the American Dream! It's hard enough to move - let alone to a new county with a new language and new culture. And then, the only thing that you have - your family - is taken away from you!
If you are a Christian I am asking you this DWJD -- DO What Jesus Did. Jesus would keep families together. Please, contact your senators and congressmen and urge them to keep families together.
