Heitkamp High Five
There is no way to explain Heitkamps highly inappropriate "high-five" of Chuck Schumer on the Senate floor following a controversial floor vote on late-term abortion. Call it whatever you want, a "high-five" an "awkward hand-shake" a "cordial hello" but it was clearly meant to be a celebration. How can anyone celebrate after such a somber vote? Heitkamp was one of 46 senators nearly all Democrats to vote against ending a filibuster, effectively killing a bill that would have outlawed abortions after 20 weeks gestation, a horrific practice. Theres no way to explain the vote and theres no way to explain the casualness of the encounter in the context of the vote itself. They say a picture is worth 1000 words, some have said that this was not a high-five by Heidi but it certainly looks like they were celebrating their defeat of the bill that wouldve protected multitudes of unborn American children.
We need our elected officials to honor and protect human life at all stages. North Dakota deserves a Senator who doesnt smile and seemingly celebrate against actions to ban late term abortions. This is a big issue and Heidis position does not match what the majority of North Dakotans think about this issue. For me, this is the deciding factor. She cant go back to Washington.
