History Supports Trumps Trade Efforts
History Supports Trump's Trade Efforts
Since World War II, the United States intentionally entered into unfavorable trade agreements with its allies to rebuild Europe and to support foreign policy objectives. We now find ourselves the victim of agreements that border on the insane from allowing Canada to automatically grade our wheat as feed and allowing Canadian farmers to dump their durum here depressing our durum prices to China slapping a 25 percent tariff on all U.S. vehicles sold in China. It is time for the world to start playing fair with us. Senator Heitkamp and other Democrats continue to pay lip service to the fact that it's time to stand up to China. I'm waiting to see any evidence of her taking action to assert ourselves in doing so. China is a consistent thief of our intellectual property and a dangerous adversary. Historically, we would be approaching them from the standpoint that the President is now. Only since the 1990s have we backtracked and receded from punishing those states who adopt an unfair trade stance. Not anymore. It's time for us to stand with the long-term mission the President has engaged in and to push back.
