A two-day blood drive for Vitalant on March 11-12 at the Knights of Columbus collected 150 units of blood products for patients in need.
There were 143 individuals volunteered to donate blood, and 128 individuals were able to donate at the drive. There were 16 donors who gave Power Red Cells, which involves collecting two units of red blood cells while returning platelets, plasma and a saline solution to the donor. Five people volunteered for the first time.
Vitalant expressed its gratitude to Dean Haas, who coordinated the drive, Mike Jaskowski and Greg Schweitzer for their assistance registering donors and Knights of Columbus which sponsored the blood drive.
Vitalant strives to keep a five-day supply of every blood type on the shelf at all times to be able to meet the needs of patients across the region. Vitalant is the only blood provider to nearly 70 hospitals across the region.
