Thirty-three units of blood products were collected during a blood drive at the University of Jamestown for Vitalant that will be used to help patients in need.

A total of 41 individuals volunteered to donate blood at the April 27 drive, and 30 individuals were able to donate. Three donors gave Power Red Cells, where two units of red blood cells are collected while returning platelets, plasma and a saline solution to the donor. Eight people volunteered for the first time.

Vitalant expressed its gratitude to Alex Raasch, who coordinated the drive, and the Student Athlete Advisory Council, which sponsored the blood drive.

Vitalant strives to keep a five-day supply of every blood type on the shelf at all times to be able to meet the needs of patients across the region. Vitalant is the only blood provider to nearly 70 hospitals across the region.
