The University of Jamestown hosted a blood drive with Vitalant on Oct. 1 at the Reiland Fine Arts Center which collected 59 units of blood products for patients in need.
Seventy individuals volunteered to donate blood, and 54 individuals were able to donate. Five donors gave Power Red Cells (2RBC), which collects two units of red blood cells while returning platelets, plasma and a saline solution to the donor. Six people volunteered to donate for the first time.
Vitalant expressed its gratitude toJulia Jenny and Allison Davis, who co-coordinated the drive, Nursing Student Association for sponsoring the blood drive, and adviser Sheri Gunderson for their help in scheduling and communication with the students.
Vitalant strives to keep a five-day supply of every blood type on the shelf at all times to be able to meet the needs of patients across the region. Vitalant is the only blood provider to nearly 70 hospitals across the region.
