LOS ANGELES - NBC's "The Wiz Live!" delivered strong ratings in the major markets and with adults 18-49.
Preliminary Nielsen ratings have the three-hour live telecast averaging a 4.4 rating in adults 18-49. Excluding the Olympics that marks NBC's highest number in the timeslot since the "ER" finale in 2009, it's the highest non-sports rating for any network on the night in three years.
"Wiz" far exceeded the turnout for last year's "Peter Pan Live!" musical, but didn't hit the heights of 2013's "The Sound of Music Live!"
More detailed Nielsen numbers covering national viewership will be released later today.
