Poverty simulation set at First United Methodist Church
The Hands-On Outreach Team of First United Methodist Church in partnership with Community Action Partners of North Dakota will be hosting a poverty simulation event on Palm Sunday, April 14. Lent is a time for people to reflect on their relationship with Jesus and our relationship with each other. This simulation will sensitize participants to the realities faced by low-income people, raise awareness and increase understanding on issues of poverty in the community. It is a simulation, not a game. Participants should be at least 18 years old.
The simulation, which will be held in the lower level dining hall, will run from 2 to 5 p.m. Participants will be given an orientation on how the simulation will proceed, assigned a role and resources, and then live four 15-minute weeks in their assigned circumstances. After the simulation the experience will be debriefed.
There is no charge to participate, however space is limited and registration is required. If child care is a need request this at the time of registration. People are asked to register by April 1.
For more information or to register, contact the Rev. Michelle Brennan at the First United Methodist Church office at 952-3718.
