NDSH, JRCC host blood drive for Vitalant

JSSP Blood Drive

The North Dakota State Hospital/James River Correctional Center hosted a blood drive with Vitalant on March 17 which helped collect 35 units of blood products for patients in need.

Twenty-seven individuals volunteered to donate blood, and 22 individuals were able to donate at the drive. One donor gave Power Red Cells (2RBC), which collects two units of red blood cells while returning platelets, plasma and a saline solution to the donor. One person volunteered for the first time.

Vitalant expressed its gratitude to Cindy Sperle-Gee, Tracy Monson and Melissa Mahin, who co-coordinated the drive, and North Dakota State Hospital Wellness Committee which sponsored the blood drive.

Vitalant strives to keep a five-day supply of every blood type on the shelf at all times to be able to meet the needs of patients across the region. Vitalant is the only blood provider to nearly 70 hospitals across the region.
