James Boberg, a 26-year employee of The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead, is the publication's new general manager, publisher William Marcil announced Tuesday.
Boberg, 47, will oversee about 350 Forum employees. He's responsible for the direction and oversight of all the newspaper's departments.
Boberg succeeds Steve McLister, who left The Forum in June to become publisher of The Duluth News Tribune newspaper group, also owned by Forum Communications Co.
"This place has been well run and I'm following Steve McLister who has really been a mentor for me and is leaving things in good shape," Boberg said.
A 1977 Moorhead High School graduate, Boberg started his career at The Forum in the newspaper's advertising department as an intern in 1981.
He began working full time at the newspaper after graduating from Minnesota State University Moorhead in 1982 with a mass communications major.
Boberg became The Forum's advertising director in 1995 and was promoted to circulation director in October 2005.
He's been active in several community groups and professional organizations including Rotary International and the United Way of Cass-Clay.
Boberg lives in Fargo. He has three children: Matt, 14; Sam, 12; and Hannah, 9.
A search for a new circulation director to replace Boberg will begin immediately.
