ELBOW LAKE, Minn. (AP) -- An Elbow Lake deer hunter was shot in the chest and killed during the firearms opener, officials said.

The 60-year-old man was shot Saturday while others in his hunting party flushed deer out of tall grass in a slough area southeast of Elbow Lake, Grant County authorities said. Elbow Lake is about 30 miles northwest of Alexandria in western Minnesota.

The shooting was reported around 9:30 a.m. and the man was taken to Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls, where he died.

His name wasn't immediately released.
