FARGO (AP) -- Authorities said a 12-year-old hunter was treated for cuts to his face and hand after the barrel of his shotgun blew up.

The boy was taken to the hospital in Breckenridge, Minn., after the mishap Sunday.

Richland County authorities said the boy was hunting with a relative in the Lidgerwood area when the accident happened. The sheriff's office says the Geneseo boy fell and the barrel of his shotgun went into the ground. Authorities said the barrel exploded when he shot at a pheasant.
