BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- The number of farms in North Dakota in 2009 was unchanged from the previous year, at 32,000.

The Agriculture Department says total land in farms last year also was unchanged over the year, at 39.6 million acres. Average farm size in North Dakota also remained the same, at 1,238 acres.

Nationally, the number of farms stayed at 2.2 million in 2009, while total land in farms dropped slightly to 919.8 million acres.
