A spring storm has caused widespread outages in Otter Tail Power Co.'s service area, south and east of Garrison, N.D. Otter Tail officials said customers in the towns of McClusky, Denhoff, Wilton, Regan and Wing should prepare to be without power potentially overnight.
"We were able to restore power to Washburn, Mercer, Turtle Lake, Underwood, Coleharbor, Falkirk, Garrison, and some customers in the Fessenden area this afternoon. Crews will work until dark tonight to restore as many towns as possible," said Ron Montonye, Otter Tail Power Co. operations manager. "We will start again at daylight tomorrow morning with local Rugby/Garrison crews and additional support from crews and equipment from Devils Lake, Jamestown, Fergus Falls and Wahpeton."
Otter Tail Power Co. customers with no power, but who live in towns where power has been restored, should check their circuit breakers before calling 800-257-4044 to report it. Use the same number to report downed lines.
"We really appreciate our customers' patience and understanding while we work to restore power to these communities," Montonye said. "To be safe, remember to stay away from downed electrical lines, even if they don't appear to be energized. And don't touch anything that may be in contact with a downed power line."
