VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) -- Heavy snowfall this winter is hampering repair work on the Clausen Springs dam in southeast North Dakota.
Barnes County Water Resource District board member Pat Hurley tells KOVC radio and the Valley City Times-Record that it's important to get the dam's spillway shored up by spring.
The spillway eroded during spring flooding in the region in April 2009, prompting the brief evacuation of the 55 residents of Kathryn. National Guard soldiers in helicopters dropped dozens of large sandbags as a temporary fix.
Patrick Hockett with Sellin (sah-LEEN') Brothers says the contractor is working on a plan to have the spillway work done by spring, and to complete other work by summer.
