DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) -- The former director of a vocational rehabilitation program on the Spirit Lake Sioux Indian Reservation has been sentenced for improperly approving program benefits.

Martina Kazena, of Fort Totten, will have to serve three months in a halfway house and seven months of home detention.

She pleaded guilty in January to charges that she conspired to steal from a tribal organization and that she aided in the thefts.

She said that while she was the vocational rehabilitation program's director, she approved benefits for her husband William and other people who didn't qualify for them.
