The Jamestown Fire Department is hosting a "volunteer firefighter recruitment presentation" at 7 p.m. March 26 at the main fire station.
Jim Reuther, fire chief, said the fire department over the past few years has found it hard to recruit new volunteer firefighters.
"We are not the only fire department that is experiencing the decrease in volunteer firefighters," he said. "There are a number of reasons why I believe it's been so difficult to recruit new firefighters."
Reasons include volunteering being a big commitment for the firefighter, family commitments and that training has increased tremendously, "mostly to keep the firefighter safe," he said.
Reuther said the fire department roster is four firefighters short of the full roster of 38. He hopes to spark interest within the community and recruit new volunteer firefighters. The following topics will be presented -- what JFD does as a fire department, type of calls it responds to, types of training it does, what it takes to be a firefighter and tours of the fire department.
