4-H holds District Communication Arts Contest

Young people from Wells, Stutsman, Sheridan, Eddy and Foster counties competed June 3 in the 4-H District Communication Arts Contest held at the Carrington Research Extension Center, Carrington, N.D.

Young people from Wells, Stutsman, Sheridan, Eddy and Foster counties competed June 3 in the 4-H District Communication Arts Contest held at the Carrington Research Extension Center, Carrington, N.D.

The Communication Arts Contest is the 4-H speech and demonstration competition that is held at the county and district level. Participants are encouraged to use their own creativity and originality in preparing their public presentations.

The program is open to any youth involved in extension youth programs. It includes two age divisions: the preteen division (youth 8-12 years old) and the teen division (youth ages 13-18).

Teen category winners and honorable mentions were offered a trip to the Extension Youth Conference June 21-24. If they can not attend EYC, they may select a $50 savings bond in place of the trip. Participation gifts were given to all participants. Rosettes or medals were provided to event winners (preteen and teen).

Pre-Teen Division champions were: Demonstration Team -- Kread Koepplin and Colby Guthmiller, Foster County; Illustrated Talks Individual -- Connal Murphy, Foster County; Public Speaking Individual -- Elizabeth Holwarth, Eddy County; Humorous Interpretive Reading --Claire Endres, Foster County; Serious Interpretive Reading -- Katie Osborne, Stutsman County; Dramatic Presentation -- Seth Kjelberg, Stutsman County; Commercial Individual -- Nick Marks, Stutsman County; and Video Production Individual -- Grant Christensen, Stutsman County.

Pre-Teen honorable mentions were: Demonstration Individual -- Morgan Well, Stutsman County; Illustrated Talks -- Marks; Serious Interpretive Reading -- Jarrett Anderson, Wells County; Humorous Interpretive Reading -- Tia Davis, Foster County; and Humorous Interpretive Reading -- Bethany Anderson.

Teen Division winners were: Presentation Software -- Beth Guthmiller, Foster County, New Rockford; Public Speaking -- Erin Endres, Foster County; Humorous Interpretive Reading -- Reed Christensen, Stutsman County; and Serious Interpretive Reading -- Many Peerboom, Sheridan County.
