MOORHEAD, Minn. — Moorhead police believe the body of a man found in the Red River about 6:30 a.m. Thursday, June 15, may be that of David Tikayne, who went missing while swimming in the river on Monday, June 5.

Moorhead Police Sgt. Clint Stephenson said crews searching for Tikayne's body Thursday morning came upon remains south of the former toll bridge at 12th Avenue North in Fargo.

The body was caught on debris in the river, and it was removed on the Fargo banks, Stephenson said.

The remains have been sent to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office in St. Paul for identification, he added.

Stephenson said Tikayne had no permanent address.

At the time he disappeared, he had entered the river with other individuals to swim or cool off, Stephenson said, adding that he was last seen bobbing in the river as he was swept downstream.
