Patrol switching to black vehicles

A prototype of what future North Dakota Highway Patrol vehicles will look like in the future is operating in the Jamestown area. Submitted by North Dakota Highway Patrol
The North Dakota Highway Patrol will transition its patrol vehicles from white to black over the next four to five years.

NDHP Col. Mike Gerhart said there is a prototype patrol vehicle, a white Dodge Charger wrapped in black with reflective NDHP decals and lettering, operating in the Jamestown area.

He said the black vehicles will enhance public safety as they will be easier to see in whiteout conditions.

Capt. Aaron Hummel, NDHP Administration Services Division commander, said the patrol’s first cars in 1935 were black.
