The Jamestown Parks and Recreation Commission amended a lease Monday that the Jamestown Parks and Recreation Department has with the University of Jamestown for the now closed outdoor pool area.
Doug Hogan, Jamestown Parks and Recreation Department director, said the lease for the pool area expires on Dec. 31, 2019. The department closed the pool after the end of the season in August 2017 as the Two Rivers Activity Center opened. TRAC has an aquatics area that includes water slides, three lanes for lap swimming, a lazy river and tube floating area, and a smaller pool for lessons and classes.
Hogan said the university is searching for construction firms that specialize in demolishing swimming pools. He said Jamestown Parks and Recreation Department will pay for the work. The current estimate for the project is $190,000, but the final cost will not be known until the work is done. Hogan said the work has not begun, but the work could be done by autumn.
The pool area will likely become a parking lot, he said.
