The Valley City State University Music Department will host the 8th Annual Solo Song Symposium on Saturday, Nov. 9. Vocal masterclasses are from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with the spotlight recital at 3 p.m.
Directed by Robin Allebach, and assisted by Christopher Redfearn, the day of masterclasses and workshops for selected high school singers will feature the opportunity to perform in a recital setting with coachings in vocal technique, diction, stage etiquette and performance practices, culminating in a spotlight recital. The vocalists are drawn from North Dakota and Minnesota.
Along with VCSU staff pianist Sarah Larsen, this year’s selected high school soloists are, from North Dakota, Alan Anderson and BreAnne Benson, West Fargo; Jackson Arends, Jamestown; Anna Beachamp and Pearl Whitehurst, Fargo; Haley Dalgliesh, Elizabeth Gazeley and Jonathan Redfearn, Valley City; and Konnor Stordalen, Bismarck; and from Minnesota, Tanner Douville, Twin Valley; Abigail Holter, McCanna, and Karli Jirava, Ogema.
The day also highlights William Egan, Enderlin, baritone; Abigail Ingstad, soprano, Joseph Munowenyu, bass baritone, and Marlen “Mikey” Meester, tenor, all Valley City; – all former Solo Song Symposium alumni who are now vocal music majors at VCSU.
