AAUW Jamestown awards scholarship

AAUW Jamestown Affiliate, which includes the communities of Bismarck and Valley City, has awarded a $1,200 scholarship to Victoria Getchell to attend the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders, University of Maryland, College Park. The yearly conference is sponsored by AAUW and NASPA.

Getchell, a senior at the University of Jamestown, is majoring in political science.

This is the ninth year the scholarship has been awarded. The scholarship was open to women at the University of Jamestown and Valley City State University. A woman who attends UJ has been awarded the scholarship eight times.

The conference provides a transformative experience for attendees, and students return home ready to improve their campuses and communities, the AAUW said.

National Conference for College Women Student Leaders is a 2 1/2 day conference that addresses the needs of current and aspiring women student leaders. Nearly 1,000 college women attend the conference. The conference offers more than 50 skill building workshops for students to attend.

Also available for the students attending the conference will be a Graduate School Fair with over 50 graduate schools participating in the fair.
