DICKINSON, N.D. — A 14-year-old girl from South Heart driving a motorized scooter was killed Monday, July 1, in an accident with a semi truck on the Interstate 94 Business Loop in Dickinson.

According to a release from the state Highway Patrol, the driver of the 2015 Kenworth semi truck, Dadren Clark, 29, of Weyanoke, La., was traveling eastbound on the I-94 Business Loop when the teen, Isabel Ann Obrien, failed to yield at a stop sign at an intersection and struck the semi on the passenger side.

The report said Obrien, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the state Department of Transportation, motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of injury-related death for North Dakota teens, and in a 2018 report stated that there was a teen-involved accident every three hours and a teen vehicle fatality every 37 days in North Dakota.
