Car strikes Amtrak train near Devils Lake

DEVILS LAKE, N.D.—A Larimore man was injured early Wednesday, June 13, when his car struck the side of the lead and second locomotives of a westbound Amtrak train 6 miles east of Devils Lake.

Ryan Larson, 20, was driving a 2004 Ford Taurus north on 89th Avenue Northeast at 6:25 a.m. when the crash occurred at the crossing of the BNSF tracks, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

The Taurus entered a ditch and overturned, and though the train sustained damage, it was not derailed and no Amtrak employees or passengers were injured.

Larson was transported to Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake with injuries that were not life-threatening.
