North Dakota man, 64, drowns while launching boat on Devils Lake
DEVILS LAKE, N.D. -- A Grand Forks man has drowned while unloading his boat on Devils Lake, law enforcement said Tuesday, Aug. 7.
The 64-year-old died Monday afternoon at CHI St. Alexius Health, Ramsey County Sheriff Steve Nelson said. The man, whose name is being withheld pending notification of family, was trying launch his boat into Six-Mile Bay when the wind pulled the watercraft out onto the lake, Nelson said.
The man attempted to swim after the drifting boat but went under, Nelson said. It’s likely the victim grew tired and could no longer swim, Nelson said.
“He was about 100 yards out,” Nelson said.
Another boat responded to the drowning man and pulled him to shore, Nelson said. Emergency crews were unable to resuscitate him, the sheriff said.
