North Dakota man, 64, who drowned in Devils Lake identified

DEVILS LAKE -- A man who drowned Monday, Aug. 8,  at Devils Lake has been identified.

Daniel Chisholm of Grand Forks died Monday afternoon at CHI St. Alexius Health, Ramsey County Sheriff Steve Nelson said.

Chisholm, 64, had tried to launch his boat into Six-Mile Bay but it was pulled onto the lake by wind, Nelson said. He swam out toward the boat and tried to catch it but he went under.

Nelson said it’s likely he became tired and couldn’t swim any longer. He estimates Chisholm was about 100 yards out.

A nearby boat pulled Chisholm to shore, but emergency crews weren’t able to resuscitate him, Nelson said.
