Texas man dies in rollover near Oakes
A Texas man died Monday in a single-car rollover crash near Oakes, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at 11:45 p.m. about 2.5 miles south of Oakes, when the driver of a 2001 GMC Yukon traveling north on 111th Avenue Southeast lost control of the vehicle on the gravel road approximately half a mile south of the N.D. Highway 11 intersection. The driver overcorrected in an attempt to turn back onto the roadway and the vehicle rolled into the ditch.
The driver, a 63-year-old man from Crystal City, Texas, was transported by Oakes Ambulance Service to CHI Oakes Hospital for medical treatment and died at the hospital, the patrol said. His name was withheld pending notification of family, the patrol said.
The driver was not wearing a seat belt.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Dickey County Sheriff’s Office, Oakes Police Department and Oakes Fire Department also responded to the scene.
