Man, 82, dies in crash near Watertown

WATERTOWN, S.D. — One person died Saturday, June 8 in a two-vehicle crash following an illegal lane change on U.S. Highway 81, about 11 miles south of Watertown.

An 82-year-old man, whose name is not being released at this time, died at about 12:55 p.m. The South Dakota Department of Public Safety said the man was not wearing his seat belt. He was driving a 1996 GMC Yukon westbound on South Dakota Highway 22 when it made an illegal lane change to cross U.S. Highway 81.

The vehicle collided with a 2013 Ford F-150 pickup, which was traveling southbound on Highway 81. The 63-year-old female driver was belted and uninjured.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol investigated the crash.
