The Barnes County Sheriff's Office said Thursday, Sept. 26, that a vehicle registered to a Valley City man reported missing last month was located around 9 a.m. Thursday in the Sheyenne River near Kathryn. A body was found inside the vehicle.
Mark Davies, 40, who was reported missing on Aug. 23, was identified as the owner of the car found in the river one mile north of Kathryn.
The Barnes County Sheriff's Office originally reported the disappearance of Davies of Valley City when he reportedly texted someone that he was heading home from the town of Kathryn, about 20 miles south of Valley City, but never made it back, according to The Forum.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
Agencies involved in the search include Barnes County Sheriff's Office, Valley City Police Department, Valley City Barnes County Search and Rescue, Stutsman County Search and Rescue, Barnes County Ambulance, North Dakota Highway Patrol, North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation, North Dakota Game and Fish Department, Jamestown Police Department, Stutsman County Sheriff's Office, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Baldhill Dam and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Service.
