MILLERVILLE, Minn. -- One person has died and two others are hospitalized following a farm accident Saturday morning north of Millerville.
According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the Douglas County Law Enforcement Center received a 911 call at 10:49 a.m. about two people down and unresponsive in a silo at 11737 Gravel Pit Road NW, north of Millerville.
A short time later, dispatchers were advised that a third person was also down and unresponsive.
Deputies learned that a father and son were working in the top of the silo and were reportedly overcome by fumes. Another son was outside the silo, observed what happened and called 911.
The son also called his uncle who lived nearby and when the uncle arrived, he entered the top of the silo to try to rescue the father and son. According to the sheriff’s office, the uncle was then overcome by the fumes.
The Millerville Fire Department was able to extricate all three from inside the top of the silo and resuscitation efforts began. The father and son were treated on scene by ambulance personnel and each were transported from the scene by LifeLink III helicopters. The father was flown to St.Cloud Hospital and the son was flown to Minneapolis Children’s Hospital.
The uncle was pronounced dead on scene by ambulance personnel. He was later transported to the Midwest Examiner’s Office for cause of death determination.
Names are being withheld at this time.
Responding to the scene were the Millerville Fire Department and First Responders, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, North Ambulance, Parkers Prairie Ambulance, LifeLink III helicopter, North Air helicopter, Alexandria Fire Department and the Minnesota State Patrol.
Millerville is 20 miles northwest of Alexandria.
