VEBLEN, S.D. -- Two teenagers were killed Monday, Dec. 23, after their car went into a ditch and struck a tree.
The crash was reported Monday morning, but no specific time was given, according to a report from the South Dakota Highway Patrol. The crash was reported about four miles north and five miles west of Veblen.
According to the report, a 2004 Chevrolet Impala was westbound on a gravel road when the driver lost control and went into a ditch and the car struck a tree. A 17-year-old female passenger died at the scene, and the 18-year-old male driver died while being flown to a Sioux Falls, S.D., hospital. Both were wearing their seat belts, the report said. Names are being withheld until relatives are notified. The crash remains under investigation.
Veblen is just south of the North Dakota border, about 26 miles northwest of Sisseton, S.D.
