ROLLA, N.D. — A Belcourt, North Dakota, man has been identified in a fatal crash near Rolla, North Dakota, on Monday, Sept. 13.
Nathan Yoder, 44, died and the three passengers in the vehicle, including two children, suffered serious injuries in the crash around 8 a.m. Monday, just over a mile east of Rolla, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
The NDHP says Yoder was traveling eastbound in a 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan on U.S. Highway 281 while another driver, 22-year-old Charles Vondal Jr., of Rolla, was traveling westbound in a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. According to the NDHP, another vehicle was stopped in traffic on the highway, yielding to Vondal and was waiting to turn left to go onto 52nd Avenue NE.
Yoder apparently attempted to pass vehicle just west of the intersection, and struck Vondal’s vehicle head-on. Both vehicles entered the north ditch after the collision occurred. All occupants needed to be extricated due to the severe damage sustained to the vehicles, the Highway Patrol said.
Vondal and the passengers in the Caravan, including 39-year-old Elizabeth Yoder, a 7-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy, all suffered serious injuries in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
