GRAFTON, N.D. (AP) -- A former Grafton and Grand Forks securities agent accused of defrauding Walsh County residents out of nearly $3.5 million is facing new charges.

The Grand Forks Herald says the new charges against Ross Haugen involve more recent investments by one of the same former clients and include nine counts of Class B felonies. Each carries a maximum punishment of 10 years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

Haugen is facing nearly 30 other felony counts involving seven former clients. Defense attorney Steven Meshbesher has said Haugen made bad decisions but did nothing criminal and also lost his own investments.

Prosecutors also have now filed charges against former business associates of Haugen in Florida and Oklahoma.
