The Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office on Friday said that residents are reporting an arrest warrant scam.

The caller is claiming to be from a sheriff’s office or police department, with a message that a warrant has been issued for the arrest of the person they are calling. The caller continues that to avoid being arrested the person being called must provide a sum of money or a gift card.

The Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office said these calls are a scam and arrest warrants are not conducted in this manner.

If anyone in the community is contacted by someone attempting this scam, he or she should not provide credit card numbers, cash, gift cards or any personal information.
