Irene Demaray is right to point out the danger of leaving pets in a hot car (in her July 6 letter).
However, at least one car, the Toyota Prius, runs the air conditioner off its battery, making it possible to safely leave and lock a pet inside in air-conditioned car for a reasonably short period without leaving the engine running.
