BELFIELD, N.D. (AP) -- Officials in the southwest North Dakota town of Belfield are considering expanding their dog pound to deal with an increase in the number of unlicensed pets roaming the area.
City officials and residents told The Dickinson Press that the stray dogs are coming in from the oil fields, and the pound is filled to capacity. Police Chief Joe Schmidt said the city works to find homes for the dogs rather than euthanize them.
The City Council also is considering hiring a dog catcher.
