Blue Jay Speech takes second at WDA West Region tournament

Jamestown High School will host the state tournament on April 17.

The Blue Jay Speech team traveled to Bismarck on Saturday, April 10, to compete at the WDA West Region tournament. The Blue Jays had a successful day with the team qualifying 22 entries for state and finishing second overall.The team brought home four West Region champions: Ian Weis in humorous interpretation, Madison Motschenbacher in speech to persuade, Logan Motter in serious prose and Paris Ndikum in radio Broadcasting. The individual state qualifiers are:

Dramatic Interpretation - Logan Motter, first

Extemporaneous Speaking - Will Nelson, third, Madison Grieve, fifth

Humorous Duo – Keelie Renwick and Paris Eslick, second, Olivia Schriock and Pete Weinzirel, fourth

Humorous Interpretation – Ian Weis, first, Olivia Schriock, sixth, Kendra Dawson, seventh

Impromptu Speaking – Gavin Haut, seventh

Poetry – Trinity Cross, seventh

Radio Broadcasting – Paris Ndikum, first, Madilyn Orr, third

Serious Duo – Ian Weis and Anja McDermid, third, Kendra Dawson and Trinity Cross, fifth, Dawson Mee and Paris Ndikum, sixth

Serious Prose – Logan Motter, first, Anja McDermid, second

Looking back at the season, Jamestown High School has been successful and fortunate to compete face-to-face with the CSTAND Restart model. Although not all were able to qualify for the tournament, each student on this team was a piece of its success, the coaches said. JHS Speech has a busy week getting geared up for the state tournament, which will be at Jamestown High School on April 17.

The team is coached by Laura Weis, Chantel Harr and Alivia Hoke.
